Navy Federal Credit Union has a new certificate special that is fairly competitive. It’s a 30-month certificate with a 2.60% APY. Minimum deposit is $18,000. They still have an 18-month special, but the rate has recently dropped to 2% APY. This has a $10,000 minimum. They had been offering a 9-month special, but this is no longer listed.
In addition to these special certificates, Navy Federal continues to offer a 4.00% APY 7-year share and IRA certificate. Minimum deposit is $20,000. The rate is 3.85% APY for a $1,000 minimum. An important note regarding the 7-year CD is that it has an early withdrawal penalty of 365 days of interest.

Connexus Credit Union continues to offer very competitive rates on its Y.E.S Money Market Account. It’s a tiered rate account, and the credit union only lists the top rate at its deposit rates page. As of 10/04/09, the top rate is 2.25% APY. This requires a minimum balance of $100,000. When I last contacted the credit union, I was informed of the following rate tiers:
- 1.50% APY $1K to $10K
- 1.75% APY $10K to $20K
- 1.90% APY $20K to $50K
- 2.00% APY $50K to $100K
- 2.25% APY $100K+
No interest is earned on balances under $1,000. It has the typical withdrawal restrictions of a money market account (no more than 6 electronic withdrawals or 3 checks per month).

EDS Credit Union is offering two competitive certificate specials: a 2.35% APY 9-month CD and a 2.15% APY 5-month CD. The 9-month CD has a $50,000 minimum deposit. The rate is 2.20% APY for a $1,000 minimum. The 5-month CD has a $25,000 minimum deposit. These specials are listed at the bottom of the credit union’s rates page as of 9/08/09.
In addition to EDS employees, membership is open to persons who live or work in Collin County, Texas. Also, eligible are persons who live, work, worship or attend school within a 10-mile radius of certain EDS Credit Union locations (15-miles from the branch at 5640 Democracy Drive, Plano, TX 75024).
