Could technological innovation provide an economic miracle?

Humans and technology are an interesting combination.

Humans are good at finding new ways to do things, inventing. That’s one of the main reasons why we dominate the planet (and risk destroying it and ourselves), we’re so good at thinking of new things.

So I like the quote from Brian Appleyard in Prospect “For Britain, as elsewhere, technology will be crucial. ……The next state will-or should be-not a machine dream augmented by humans but a human reality augmented by machines.”

We tend to think of technology, be it 3D copying, computing or whatever as something way beyond what humans can do.

The current generation of youngsters does not believe in using cash for any of their purchases. They would rather pull out their debit cards and let the retailer use the swiping machine to pay for their purchases. Between debit cards and school and college ID cards, they have grown up without understanding many of the nuances of the banking industry. Thanks to their ignorance, most of them will not even understand when the banks are swindling them off their hard earned money in the form of newer charges and fees.

One of the largest banks in the United States, the Bank of America, has recently made an announcement stating that customers who hold an account in their bank and have debit cards will be charged a monthly fee of $5 starting 2012.

On 22nd September, the Isle of Man Government announced that it was seeking expressions of interest from individuals and organisations keen to work with the Government to establish the first five star hotel and casino complex on the Island.

The Government has further announced today that it has prepared supporting information regarding the opportunity and that this information is now available upon request, in both hard and soft copies, to interested parties.

One of the things I did quite a bit at the Financial Blogger Conference this weekend was “show off” my Tracfone flip phone. It was probably more of a function of my deep-down jealousy. Because, let’s be honest, when you go to a blogger conference you see a lot of fancy smart phones — even frugality bloggers have much fancier phones than I do, and I’m not a penny pincher by any stretch. I tend to walk away from these conferences thinking that I need a smart phone.

This is an Online Banking November 2011 5 year CD rates update to help keep you informed on this investing subject so you can place your money where it will benefit you the most. From the nationwide online banks, the best bank rate this month is 2.30% APY. This is up 0.10% from last month and is being offered by Farmington Bank. The minimum deposit amount is $500.

The next best CD rates is from Black River Country Bank. Their 5 year CD is earning an APY of 2.27%. The minimum deposit required is $1,000.

In third this month are three financial institutions that are offering a 5 year CD with an APY of 2.25%. These are Washington Federal Bank, the First National Bank of Kansas and Tompkins Trust Company.
